Power and principles of prosperity

One of the most important human needs is the means of sustenance – food, shelter and clothing. Unfortunately, despite the technological advancement in the world and various governmental strategies to satisfy this human need and curb poverty, many still live from hand to mouth. Is it naturally designed that some should be rich and others poor? Why are some individuals described as being rich but are not prosperous? This article presents a simplified guide to understanding the secrets of biblical prosperity and power to make wealth.

What is prosperity?

Prosperity is simply defined as the state of being successful, especially financially 1. According to the above figure 2, it is clear that you can be wealthy but not prosperous. God wants His children to prosper. Prosperity has always been the perfect plan of God for His people (Gen. 1: 29-30). According to 3 John 1:2, health, spiritual and soul prosperity must always precede financial prosperity.

Power for wealth creation

The power to make wealth is given by God (Deut 8:18; Isa 48:17). First, we need to understand His plans, work / walk according to His principles (see the above figure3) of making wealth and ask Him through prayers (see the figure below4) for maximum realisation of His purpose for us. Understanding the reason for wealth creation, practising the principles of making wealth and effective communication with the giver of true wealth are the fundamental keys to wealth creation.

Principles for wealth creation

It is noteworthy that the basic principles for creating wealth were given by the creator of true wealth. We see from His principles: Financial savings or investment plan – Eccl 11:1; Diligence – Prov. 12:27; Giving to ease the burdens of others – Prov 11:25; Perfecting our skills and God-given talents – Eccl 10:10; Creating solutions: 1 Kings 4:34.

The partnership for wealthy lifestyle

To maintain our wealth, we must remain in partnership (Gen 39:2-3;23) with God and also with the right persons, we must not forget the pathway (Jos 1:7-8) of godliness and we must pattern (Acts 8:30-31) after godly mentors for continual flow of wealth.

Prayer points for prosperity

  • Reject the mind-set of poverty. Ask God to enlarge your coast (1 Chron. 4: 9-10).
  •  Break all generational linkages that hinder progress and prosperity (delay, disappointment, failure, and illnesses among others.) (Isa. 39:6-8 or 2 kings 20:17-19; Dan. 1:3, 6).
  • The Lord will contend with them that contend with you and save your children (Isa. 49: 24-25).
  • Your gifts will make room for you and bring you before kings (Prov. 18: 16).
