The Oxford dictionary defines purpose as the intention, aim, or function of something; the thing that something is supposed to achieve. Finding our ‘’why’’ is essential for our well-being; this happens when we pause and check our choices and progress in life. Am I in the right place? Am I doing what I meant to do? Is my life having an impact on many? Questions like these can easily help us to discover our purpose.
Purpose distinguishes us or makes us stand out. It helps us to identify our niche and avoid the error of trying to fulfil other people’s life assignments. Purpose helps us to understand our uniqueness and work on pleasing God, the giver of purpose – 1 Peter 2:9
Purpose is vital for our survival. Philip the Evangelist, driven by purpose, approached and asked the Ethiopian Eunuch the following question: “…Understandest thou what thou readest?” This singular act of Philip opened the door for him to preach and lead the Ethiopian Eunuch to Christ. The Ethiopian Eunuch found a purpose in Christ, which is needed for his own survival against the enemies of purpose both in this world and in the hereafter. This tells us that understanding our purpose is key to our survival. Every man and woman, both young and old need to understand his or her God-given purpose. – Acts 8:30-31
Due to the already stated reasons, there are adversaries that aim to prevent man from finding and fulfilling purpose. Sin, Self and Satan are the major adversaries against God’s purpose for man. The first step to finding our high calling – Purpose, is salvation through Christ. (John 3:1-8) (2 Timothy 1:9). If you have not truly surrendered your life to Christ as your Lord and Saviour, please do so now, so that you can live a life of purpose. Jesus loves you and wants you to live in your God-given purpose.
Some other benefits of Purpose are,

- It brings out our originality and uniqueness to please GOD
- It helps us to be focused and resilient in our pursuit.
- It helps us to be a blessing to others;
Never forget, ‘’When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable’’
